The ownership structure of Rajasthan Royals is set to change after Raj Kundra, the co-owner whose involvement in the IPL corruption scandal has been established, decided to offload his stake in the franchise.ESPNcricinfo understands the Royals management submitted a letter to the IPL authorities on February 16 in Bangalore on the sidelines of the IPL player auction, requesting them to let them change the ownership structure of Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt Ltd, the legal entity that owns the franchise. The letter did not detail if Kundra’s stake of 11.7 per cent in Royals’ parent company would be sold off to a new investor or if the other three stakeholders would add to their holding, if Kundra is allowed to exit.Kundra, IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal and Royals chief executive Raghu Iyer remained unavailable for a comment. But according to a BCCI insider, Royals are treading cautiously “knowing the sensitivity of the matter”. “They will reveal the future course of action only if they get the permission.” The insider added that the BCCI is likely to discuss Royals’ letter during its AGM in Chennai on March 2.Kundra’s move doesn’t come as a surprise since he had indicated in a Supreme Court affidavit in November 2014 that he was willing to give up his stake till the allegations against him are cleared.”Applicant, being a man of his words, hereby agrees to transfer his ownership in the shares of Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited in the custody of this Hon’ble Court or to such person, as may be appointed by the Hon’ble Court,” the affidavit had said.”He agrees that in such a scenario, he will receive back the shares, or any benefit thereof, only in case he is cleared of all of the present allegations. However, the applicant clarifies that the above mentioned act is without prejudice and should in no manner be considered as an admission of guilt or as an acceptance of the said report.”Kundra, who was found guilty of betting on IPL games, was interrogated by the Delhi Police soon after the arrest of Gurunath Meiyappan for similar offences in May 2013. Since then, Kundra has been suspended but no punishment has been meted out to either the teams or the individuals in question. On January 22, the Supreme Court appointed a three-member panel to finalise the punishment to be imposed on Kundra and Meiyappan.Royals have always been under the scanner for their connection with Lalit Modi, the IPL’s founding chairman who was banned for life from the BCCI. Suresh Chellaram, whose family owns the biggest stake in the Royals, is Modi’s brother-in-law.Royals is co-owned by Emerging Media (IPL) Ltd (Manoj Badale, 32.4%), Tresco International Ltd (Suresh Chellaram family, 44.2%), Blue Water Estate Ltd (Lachlan Murdoch, 11.7%) and Kuki Investments Ltd (Raj Kundra & family, 11.7%).

Neeraj Kumar appointed BCCI anti-corruption consultant

Neeraj Kumar, the former Delhi Police commissioner, has been appointed as a consultant for the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit (ACU).

Neeraj Kumar, the former Delhi Police commissioner, has been appointed as a consultant for the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit (ACU). Kumar was appointed by the IPL governing council, which met in New Delhi on Monday. Mumbai and Pune were also confirmed as venues for the first two IPL playoff games.”Neeraj Kumar has been appointed for one year as a consultant to the ACU. He will be involved in improving ACU’s operations and awareness programmes,” Rajiv Shukla, IPL governing council chairman, told ESPNcricinfo.Working committee to discuss CLT20 on April 26

The fate of the Champions League Twenty20 will be decided by the BCCI’s working committee during its meeting on April 26.
The IPL governing council was expected to discuss the proposal of scrapping the tournament but the matter wasn’t taken up. Instead, the governing council members were told that the working committee will decide on whether to scrap the tournament or persist with it for another year.

While Shukla didn’t elaborate on Kumar’s role, it is understood that the former commissioner will set in motion an improved system to prevent players from being trapped by bookies. BCCI officials also believe that Kumar’s vast experience in cracking cricket corruption-related cases during his tenure with the police will aid the BCCI.Kumar had led the investigations during the 2013 IPL corruption scandal that saw the arrests of several players and bookies. He had also played a large role in the 2000 match-fixing investigation, the first major fixing scandal in the game. Kumar is expected to work closely with ACU chief Ravi Sawani, who was present at Monday’s meeting.During the 2013 corruption scandal investigation, Kumar had been dissatisfied with the BCCI’s vigilance against corruption. “They should maintain better vigil. Most of this stuff happens quite openly: people are seen sitting with undesirable people and people do come to know about some strangers meeting somebody. So they have the list of the suspects, they should go after them,” Kumar had said in an interview to ESPNcricinfo in July 2013. “It would not be fair to say corruption is a rule and honesty an exception. There are a few rotten eggs, which should be spotted and be weeded out.”Meanwhile, the Supreme Court approved the request of the RM Lodha committee to replace IPS officer BB Mishra with CBI officer Vivek Priyadarshi. The committee was formed by the Supreme Court to decide on punishment for Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan – both of whom were found guilty of match-fixing by the Supreme Court – and to make recommendations and suggest amendments to the procedures followed by the board.Shukla also confirmed that the governing council allotted two of the four IPL knockout matches to Mumbai Cricket Association and Maharashtra Cricket Association. “The decision over the venue for the first qualifier on May 19 will be taken later,” he said.It is understood that Kolkata and Dharamsala, home venues of BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and secretary Anurag Thakur respectively, are frontrunners to stage the first qualifier. While the second qualifier will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 22, Pune will stage the eliminator on May 20. Eden Gardens in Kolkata has already been announced as the venue for the final, scheduled for May 24.

Russell blitz leads shaky Knight Riders to win

Kings XI Punjab pacer Sandeep Sharma’s controlled, incisive spell with the new ball had threatened to make a chase of 156 insurmountable for Kolkata Knight Riders, before Andre Russell’s blunt-force innings took the defending champions to their second win of IPL 2015 after three games. Kings XI, meanwhile, have three losses from four games. The victory margin of four wickets with a little more than two overs to spare may suggest a stroll, but that was hardly how things proceeded in the first half of Knight Riders’ chase, when Sandeep had reduced them to 60 for 5.He pinned Robin Uthappa lbw for 13 in the third over. In his next over, Manish Pandey chipped a catch straight to midwicket. Thisara Perera got the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav in the seventh over, and Sandeep returned with a double-wicket maiden that accounted for Gautam Gambhir and Ryan ten Doeschate. Within six balls, Knight Riders had slipped from 60 for 2 to 60 for 5. He got movement into and away from the batsmen and stuck resolutely to lengths. There was a pattern to Knight Riders’ innings – the impressive cast of big-hitters would take guard, smash a couple of boundaries and then walk back. While the wickets left them in a bind, the boundaries meant that Russell and Yusuf Pathan never faced an overtly steep asking rate.Russell settled in with a couple of swipes, but Knight Riders’ final tilt at the target was set in motion in the 13th over, when Russell took 19 runs off Axar Patel, hacking two fours and a six off the first three balls. His brutal fluency at the crease allowed Yusuf Pathan the luxury of a slow start before he, too, managed to find boundaries. Their 95-run partnership, which lasted almost 10 overs, was broken only when the scores were tied.Kings XI were stifled right from the start of their innings, after being put in. The top order of M Vijay, Virender Sehwag and Wriddhiman Saha struggled but the brisk stand between George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell provided some hope of a challenging total. The pair added 63 for the fourth wicket, with Maxwell looking promising after getting a reprieve on 13, but their chances of a massive total petered out quickly once he was dismissed. The second half of Kings XI’s innings sputtered along largely on Bailey’s efforts even as wickets fell rapidly at the other end. The Kings XI captain – by far their best batsman this season – stitched together a calm 60 off 45 before his dismissal in the last over of the innings. In a steady bowling performance, Sunil Narine had returns of 4-0-17-1, his first wicket in the IPL with a remodeled action.

Lyth, Wood in squad for NZ Tests

England may feel they have rid themselves of one devil having informed Kevin Pietersen he will not be considered for selection this season but they will inherit another with Adam Lyth set to become the 666th Test cricketer for England having been named in

England could field two debutants in 1st Test

England may feel they have rid themselves of one devil having informed Kevin Pietersen he will not be considered for selection this season but they will inherit another when the first Test begins against New Zealand next Thursday with Adam Lyth set to become the 666th Test cricketer for England.Mark Wood, the Durham fast bowler who toured West Indies, could also debut against New Zealand after being included in the 12-man squad for the first Test of the summer against New Zealand at Lord’s.Lyth, 27, was reduced to 12th man duty in the Caribbean as Jonathan Trott was given an opportunity to revive his international career but Lyth will now get his chance as Alastair Cook’s sixth opening partner since the retirement of Andrew Strauss in 2012. Lyth enjoyed an outstanding 2014 with 1489 Championship runs at an average of 67.68 as Yorkshire won their first title since 2001.Lyth’s devil-may-care attitude

Adam Lyth has taken a devil-may-care attitude to the expectation that he will become England’s 666th Test debutant – a number normally associated with the devil or anti-Christ.
The ECB would be open to any request from Lyth to skip a number based on some religious or superstitious concern.
Lyth, however, presumably not an addict of horror movies, was unconcerned by such outlandish notions.
“Any Test number, I’m not bothered,” he told . “A Test debut at Lord’s, walking through the Long Room with Alastair Cook to open the batting for England – it doesn’t get much better than that, does it? It will be one of the proudest moments of my life, and the same for my family.”

With Trott having retired from international cricket, Lyth will be the latest batsman to try and forge a new partnership with Cook. None of the other five players tried – Nick Compton, Joe Root, Michael Carberry, Sam Robson and Trott – have lasted more than nine Tests. Having toured the Caribbean, Lyth has only played one match in the UK this season, making 53 and 23 against Hampshire at Headingley, but a lack of cricket having been with the England squad was naturally not held against him.”I’m over the moon,” Lyth said, “I’m looking forward to opening the batting next week. It’s very exciting, I’m sure there will be a lot of nerves next week but I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. It will be one of the proudest moments of my life. It was great to get the experience in the West Indies but now I get my chance and there’s no better place to make your debut than at Lord’s. Hopefully I can be in the side for a long period now and would love to play an Ashes series.”Alex Hales, the Nottinghamshire batsman, staked his own claim for a call up with a double century against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and 141 and 94 at the Ageas Bowl – he is the leading run-scorer after five rounds of the County Championship – but Lyth has been given first opportunity and Hales has been called up for the knockout stages of the IPL with Mumbai Indians.”Adam Lyth has waited patiently for an opportunity with England having performed consistently for Yorkshire and England Lions in the last year,” national selector, James Whitaker, said. “He fully deserves his chance to cement a place in the side at the top of the order. Mark Wood has also impressed and his pace and style of bowling ensure the coach and captain have options in the bowling attack.”There were some positive signs during the recent Test tour and it is key that this group of players learns from the instances when the opposition was put under pressure and we were in a position to press for victory but couldn’t quite manage it. New Zealand are a very talented side and I expect a very competitive series between the two teams to start what will be an incredibly exciting summer of cricket. Good luck to Alastair, Paul Farbrace and the rest of the squad.”Wood, who played in the washed-out ODI in Dublin last week, may be the second England debutant at Lord’s if England decide to make a change to the attack that played in the Caribbean. Ben Stokes, England’s seam-bowling allrounder, is likely to be persisted with despite just three wickets at 85.33 in three Tests against West Indies. He bowled some impressive spells and also made 79 in Antigua. Chris Jordan, who took six wickets at 42.66 in the Caribbean, could make way for Wood as third seamer.Mark Wood is in contention for a Test debut at Lord’s•Getty Images

Wood, the 25-year-old Durham bowler, was fast-tracked into the England set-up and could make his Test debut after just 24 first-class matches. He impressed for Durham in 2013 with 27 scalps at 24.07 in the county’s third Championship triumph. Injury reduced him to just one warm-up match on England Lions’ tour of Sri Lanka but this winter toured South Africa with the Lions. He was also in England’s party in the Caribbean. This is the first squad of Strauss’s reign as director of England cricket. He sat in on the selection meeting led by national selector James Whitaker, whose role is the latest to come under scrutiny after Strauss’s appointment. England go into the series without a permanent coach after Peter Moores’ sacking. Paul Farbrace, the assistant coach, takes temporary charge. Alastair Cook, who made his first Test century for almost two years in Barbados, continues as captain after Strauss offered his public backing at his unveiling on Tuesday.Liam Plunkett, who also toured the Caribbean and featured for England in Test matches last summer, might have been considered but he was left out of Yorkshire’s match at Headingley this week for disciplinary reasons.England squad for first Test against New Zealand
Alastair Cook (capt, Essex), Adam Lyth (Yorkshire), Gary Ballance (Yorkshire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Jos Buttler (wkt, Lancashire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Mark Wood (Durham)
