Liverpool fans urge Reds to sign David

A number of Liverpool supporters have urged the Reds to sign Canadian striker Jonathan David, following an update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

After a quiet time of things in the transfer department of late, the hope is that Liverpool bring in a number of new faces in the summer window.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane turning 30 this year, and Roberto Firmino already reaching that milestone, the need for fresh attacking talent is clear to see.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Lille striker David in the recent past, with the 22-year-old scoring 12 goals in just 16 Ligue 1 starts this season.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Romano confirmed that the attacker will leave Lille in the summer, instead of during the January transfer window.

Aston Villa not selling Cash this month

Aston Villa have been particularly proactive in the January transfer window when it comes to bringing new players to the club such as Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Robin Olsen and Calum Chambers.

It now seems as though the Villa faithful can relax about the possibility of one of their current key players potentially leaving the club this month.

What’s the latest?

According to a recent Twitter post from The Athletic’s Villa journalist Gregg Evans, the Midlands club will not be selling Matty Cash during the current transfer window, after a report emerged claiming that the right-back was in talks with Atletico Madrid over a potential move to the reigning La Liga champions.

Evans confirmed that Diego Simeone’s side have an interest in Cash and will consider bidding for him when the summer transfer window opens, but the player will remain at Villa Park for the time being.

The Poland international joined Villa in 2020 from Championship club Nottingham Forest in a deal worth a reported £16m.

Since arriving at Villa Park, the defender has firmly cemented himself as the club’s first-choice right-back, with a total of 51 appearances under his belt across all competitions.

Gerrard will be buzzing

Cash has played more minutes in the Premier League than anyone else at Villa so far this season and earned himself an overall performance rating of 6.88/10 in the process, making him Villa’s fifth-highest rated player according to WhoScored. This highlights just how important the 24-year-old is to the team and why Steven Gerrard would be delighted to have him stay put for the remainder of the season.

Also, in a recent poll ran by Football FanCast, 91% of respondents suggested that Villa should not sell Cash in the summer, showing just how highly he is rated by the fans.

If Atletico make an official approach to Villa in the summer to sign their right-back, the Midlands club should do all they can to keep hold of him and see out the remainder of his contract at Villa Park, which isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2025.

For now, Gerrard must be buzzing to hear that the club have no intention of letting the 24-year-old leave in the final stages of the January transfer window.

Sussex stroll to easy win

Two much-changed teams re-convened for the first weekend of county cricket’s newest sponsorship. With Michael Yardy and Luke Wright away with England, preparing for the ICCWorld T20 in the Caribbean, acting captain Goodwin made the right call by givinghis seamers the chance to take control in helpful early-season conditions. It took a brilliant catch by Joe Gatting, low to his left at short mid-wicket,to remove Vikram Solanki in Chad Keegan’s fourth over after Worcestershire’scaptain had hit three fours in a confident start. The real breakthrough for Sussex came with the more contentious of twoleg-before decisions by umpire Mark Benson.

Bravo hopes to end 'rough period'

Bravo: “I will never say no to batting up the order”•AFP

After three consecutive defeats to South Africa in two Twenty20s and an ODI, and the Super Eights’ exit from the ICC World Twenty20, West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo has said the players were “feeling the pressure” and that the team realises its fans are “getting impatient”. Bravo, however, felt that a win was “right around the corner” and hoped West Indies would regain their confidence quickly.”We are going through a bit of a rough period,” Bravo told the . “We understand we are representing the entire Caribbean. We want to do well. Things are not going our way. We are going to continue to work hard and one day the hard work will pay off.”We’ve been playing inconsistent cricket. That is a major concern for us. We are still struggling to find a solution. All the guys are putting in an effort in the nets and in preparation. Once we get that victory, it is going to make a big difference for us. It is going to help our confidence as players and as a team.”West Indies’ batting has been the problem in the home series against South Africa. In both the Twenty20 internationals they failed to chase modest targets and they never challenged South Africa’s 280 in the first ODI. The top order, beginning with captain Chris Gayle, has failed to dominate the visitors’ attack and the rest of the batsmen have been unable to cope with the loss of early wickets. In a new move, West Indies used Bravo at No.3 in all three games and he responded with 20, 40 and 15.”I like the opportunity to bat at No.3. After bowling first, my legs will be a bit tired, but I relish the opportunity. It is something I grabbed with both hands. I will never say no to batting up the order,” Bravo said. “The workload is a lot, but I am happy and will continue to strive and work hard.”West Indies only need to look at their opponents for inspiration. South Africa were also eliminated in the second round of the World Twenty20, which left them “very stressed out”, according to batsman AB de Villiers.”What happened in the World Cup was very disappointing. It will never go away,’ de Villiers said. “It is a matter of bouncing back. We’re taking it step by step. We’ve had a lot of meetings, a lot of briefings and positive chats to each other. We are all very hungry to play some good cricket and to give the public back home what they are looking for – trophies and a lot of wins.”South Africa take on West Indies in the second ODI of the five-match series in Antigua on Monday.

Vamos respeitar a opinião do atleta.

West Ham: Ornstein drops Nunez update

West Ham United are currently failing in a bid to bring Darwin Nunez to the London Stadium on transfer deadline day.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by David Ornstein, who revealed in a recent article for The Athletic that, despite it being reported West Ham had agreed a fee with Benfica regarding the transfer of the 22-year-old, Nunez has informed David Moyes that he has no intention of joining the Irons this month, and he is hoping to move to a Champions League side in the summer.

In his report, the transfer insider wrote: “West Ham also enquired about Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, but sources have told The Athletic that the player was not interested in the move and is hopeful of joining a Champions League club in the summer.”

Fans will be furious

With the clock ticking down to Monday evening’s transfer deadline, the news that West Ham have failed in their bid for Nunez is sure to have left the London Stadium faithful furious with Moyes.

Indeed, while the Benfica hitman would have made a fantastic addition to the 58-year-old’s first-team squad, in truth, a deal to sign one of the hottest prospects in European football never appeared to be overly likely – with ExWHUemployee even revealing at the time of the Hammers’ bid that the club’s chances of landing the £28.8m-rated striker were extremely slim.

And, with Moyes undoubtedly being aware that this was the case at the time of his bid for the Uruguay international, exactly why the Scot left making a move for a striker, when he himself admitted the position was his upmost priority this month, until the final day of the window is beyond us.

Indeed, should West Ham fail to bring in a new centre-forward over what remains of the January transfer window, it would undoubtedly come as a huge blow to the club’s top-four chances this season – a setback that Moyes could quite easily have avoided.

Jonathan Trott carried on his week of selector-nudging when leadingWarwickshire to a crushing nine-wicket win against local rivals Worcestershirein the Friends Provident t20 at New Road.Overlooked by England for the one-day internationals against Scotland andAustralia, he took his total to 160 runs in three innings when adding anunbeaten 72 to scores of 42 against Lancashire and 46 against Nottinghamshire. An efficient bowling performance restricted Worcestershire to a below-par 118for nine before Trott came out firing with a half-century from 35 balls. Although he was last year’s leading scorer in the old Twenty20 Cup with 525 runs, the South African-born batsman seems have been temporarily pigeonholed by the selectors as a Test player rather than a one-day enforcer. At county level it is a different story as he consistently leads from thefront. Worcestershire had no answer as Trott made up for the early loss of NeilCarter.Completely at ease he finished with 10 fours off 54 balls as Warwickshirecruised home with 3.4 overs to spare. To emphasise their superiority DarrenMaddy contributed 44 to an unbroken stand of 100.Worcestershire’s innings was in shreds with the loss of three wickets in sevenballs from Carter and Chris Woakes. Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya – only 12 days short of his 41st birthday – sparked the crisis by clipping the last delivery in Carter’s opening over tomidwicket.Phil Jaques (29) held up Warwickshire until recalled wicketkeeper Tim Ambrosegrabbed his third catch as spin pair Imran Tahir and Ant Botha stifled themiddle order while bowling their eight overs for 36 runs.It was only through the efforts of their least experienced batsman thatWorcestershire took their total beyond 100. England Under-19 left-hander Jack Manuel, born on Warwickshire territory at Sutton Coldfield, played with some confidence in making 31 with the help of twofours and a six in an over from Rikki Clarke. The teenager was finally caught at long-off to give Keith Barker his secondwicket and both Ben Scott and Richard Jones were run out in the final over. Ambrose completed the last dismissal in an impressive return to the side after a three-week rest from first-team cricket.
