Matt Prior, the England wicketkeeper, has shrugged off the comment about his “massive ego” in Justin Langer’s leaked dossier about the England team and said he hadn’t “lost too much sleep over it”.Prior, who overcame a pre-toss back spasm to top score in England’s first innings at Headingley, said comments like Langer’s were part of the game. In the dossier, Langer advised the Australian team to chip away at Prior “about his wicketkeeping and the pressure he is under to perform with the gloves on”. “I am not sure he actually likes keeping that much and from all accounts he has a massive ego so I would be reminding him about how his keeping could see him out of the team,” Langer wrote. “I would definitely work on his ego.”Prior said he just planned to concentrate on his work and stay in the zone. “It is important whose advice and whose opinion you should listen to and take seriously,” Prior said. “It is not something I would take seriously or listen to. If my team-mates or my friends started saying something like that I might listen to it but otherwise it is nothing.”It is part and parcel of the game, whatever anyone’s thoughts or ideas are that is fine, that is up to them.”Prior was subjected to public and media ire during India’s 2007 tour to England over sledging Sachin Tendulkar as well as his alleged involvement in the jelly-bean incident with Zaheer Khan. Prior denied littering the pitch with jelly beans to distract Zaheer and said he was victimised for the rest of the series. Poor form behind the stumps cost him his place in the side and Prior later said he had difficulty coming to terms with the “character assassinations” from the media and public. On the England board’s request, Sussex have rested Prior from the Twenty20 Cup matches on Sunday. Sussex are scheduled to play Northamptonshire in the semi-final which will be followed by the final later that day. Prior said the decision to rest him had not been taken because of the back spasm. “My back is fine, I’ve had physio pretty much everyday since the Test match, so today it is 90-95% spot on.”All my energy and all my thinking is obviously going towards [the Test], so first and foremost I think it would be unfair on myself or on my Sussex team-mates if I were to turn up on Saturday if my head was not fully on the white ball and Twenty20 cricket – slogging and what not – when really I’m thinking about building a long innings of Test cricket.”

Everton could revive Gallagher interest

Everton could head into the winter transfer market head-on, with Rafa Benitez hoping to spend the club’s money more wisely going forward.

Sporting director, Marcel Brands, will have a job on his hands to make the right moves this January as Everton are currently falling behind in the race for European football spots in the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez’s side are sitting 11th in the league, with just four wins in their Premier League challenge so far, the Spanish manager will be looking to improve his side and climb up the table to achieve European football in the season ahead.

There has been one particular Premier League loan signing that has caught the attention of everyone over the season so far and has now captured the attention of England manager, Gareth Southgate, too.

Conor Gallagher has been tearing it up at Crystal Palace with the midfielder showing impressive attacking capabilities with four goals and two assists in 11 appearances for the South London club, with the performances earning him his first England call up.

The 20-year-old has been called up to the England side due to a number of players dropping out of the last World Cup Qualifying fixture of the international break against San Marino, and will be hoping to make his mark on the team to impress Southgate ahead of the World Cup 2022.

Everton were previously linked with the youngster, when they were encouraged to scout the £13.5m-rated midfielder, after Blues officials watched him over ten times between 2018 and 2020, but never made an official move.

The Chelsea loanee, should they reignite their interest, would be an incredible addition to Everton and would become a long term solution to short term problems that the Toffees have been experiencing with inconsistency in their midfield after Abdoulaye Doucoure’s injury.

For starters, he’d give them more of an all-around presence in the middle of the park, both from an offensive and defensive point of view when you consider the numbers he’s contributed this term.

Crystal Palace podcaster, HLTCO, took to his Twitter account to praise the “transformative force” of Gallagher upon his England selection;

“Conor Gallagher has been a truly transformative force in the Palace midfield since joining the club. I’m over the moon for him, it’s a richly deserved call-up for one of the most energetic footballers I’ve ever had the joy of watching.”

Brands and Benitez will have a challenge on their hands to secure the signature of the 20-year-old central midfielder, as he continues to thrive at Crystal Palace, and draw attention from many title-challenging Premier League clubs, including his parent club, Chelsea.

That said, if he finds himself with no future at Stamford Bridge, the top brass at Goodison must ensure he becomes their player. They can’t afford to let all of that scouting go down the drain.

And in other news, Rafa could revive Everton’s season by unleashing £40.5m-rated “nightmare”…

'Dutch' Nannes thrilled at career twist

The Dirk Nannes story is already a unique one but it could become even more remarkable if his debut in Australian colours goes well

The Dirk Nannes story is already a unique one but it could become even more remarkable if he makes a positive debut in Australian colours. Should Nannes thrive in the Twenty20s against England following the Ashes, he may go on to hold the rare honour of playing in two World Cups in the space of a year – for two different countries.Nannes had given up hope of playing for Australia, the nation of his birth, when he wasn’t named in the 30-man preliminary squad for this year’s World Twenty20 despite being one of the most fearsome short-format bowlers in the world. But a Dutch passport – his parents migrated to Australia before he was born – allowed him to make his international debut for Netherlands in the Twenty20 tournament.Fast-forward two months and Nannes has received a belated call-up for Australia, who bombed out without winning a game, as they plan for the next World Twenty20 to be held in the West Indies early next year. Cricket Australia’s general manager of cricket Michael Brown delivered the news on Monday to Nannes, who now has a chance to impress in a pair of games against England at Old Trafford.”I was sitting at home and the phone rang and it was Michael Brown,” Nannes said. “He normally calls either if you’re selected or you’ve done something wrong. I was scratching my brain to work out what I’d done wrong because I had no idea there were even Twenty20s in England.”Unlike any of his Australian team-mates, Nannes has experience of beating England in a Twenty20 this year as part of the Netherlands side that recorded a historic victory over England at Lord’s to kick off the World Twenty20 with a bang. Nannes said he had no regrets about turning out for Netherlands, which he said had been “a super plus for me”.”Playing for Holland was certainly unique because everyone there, they’re all amateurs,” Nannes said. “I was playing with a Burger King manager and a debt collector and an insurance salesman and they were just having fun playing cricket and got to go to a World Cup.”That moment of winning the game for Holland against England at Lord’s was the best sporting moment I’ve had. I’ll never forget that, that’s for sure. I’ve made some good friends there as well. It’s a super plus for me that I’ve done that. Who knows whether I would have been selected [for Australia] if I didn’t play for them. The selectors mightn’t have seen me play at the highest level.”Nannes’ two Twenty20 internationals for Netherlands do not disqualify him from playing for Australia because Netherlands is an ICC Associate member rather than a full Test-playing nation. However, once he debuts for Australia, Nannes would need to wait to requalify for any future appearances for Netherlands.Although Nannes will play for two countries within the space of three months, it is not a record short time for switching allegiances. Earlier this year, Eoin Morgan made his one-day international debut for England seven weeks after playing his last ODI for his country of birth, Ireland. However, Nannes, 33, will be the first man to play Twenty20 internationals for two different countries.Should he impress the selectors and win a place in next year’s World Twenty20, he will also hold the distinction of representing Australia in World Cups in two different sports, having previously been a World Cup skier. But for now, Nannes is simply hoping to blitz England in the two games at Old Trafford.”If I keep playing well, who knows, maybe I’ll get selected [for the World Twenty20],” he said. “But at the end of the day if I’ve still played for Australia that’s something that I’m absolutely rapt with and hopefully I do well.”

Do inferno ao céu! Rodada perfeita pode levar São Paulo à zona da Sul-Americana

MatériaMais Notícias

No início da 24ª rodada, o São Paulo ocupava a vice-lanterna do Campeonato Brasileiro, somente a frente do Atlético-GO.

Why Wolves could struggle to sign Sanches

Renato Sanches may be eyeing up a move to a bigger club than Wolves, which could scupper a switch to Molineux, according to journalist Luke Hatfield.

The Lowdown: Wolves linked with January move

According to recent reports, Bruno Lage is keen on acquiring the signature of the Lille man who shone for Portugal at Euro 2020, averaging a 91.6% pass completion rate.

Sanches’ current Lille contract expires in the summer of 2o23, so next year will likely be their final opportunity to receive a hefty fee for him.

Wolves could eye up a January move for the 24-year-old but a negative update has emerged in that respect.

The Latest: Journalist provides Sanches update

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Hatfield claimed Sanches may see his future at a club with greater credentials than Wolves, putting paid to a move to Molineux:

“The issue with Sanches is you see his name linked with other clubs, and clubs who are higher up the pecking order in terms of size than Wolves. Would he see them as a more attractive option? That’s a question you’ve got to ask.”

The Verdict: Talented but injury-prone

Sanches is an extremely gifted footballer – he won the 2016 European Golden Boy award, which speaks volumes – but his career has been plagued by injuries.

In fact, the 32-time capped Portugal international has never started more than 16 league games in a season at any club, highlighting his fitness issues. If he were to play just 16 times in a 38-game Premier League campaign, that amounts to only 42 per cent of the season.

For that reason, Wolves may end up seeing not signing Sanches as a blessing in disguise, spending their money on a more trustworthy midfielder who will be available for more than half the campaign.

New Zealand to host Pakistan 'home' series

New Zealand will host six Tests in a summer for the first time after confirming Tests against Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia for 2009-10

New Zealand will host six Tests in a summer for the first time after confirming their series against Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia for 2009-10. The season features a three-Test series against Pakistan, who will be the ‘home’ team after relocating the games to New Zealand due to security concerns in Pakistan, while the heavy schedule has forced Australia’s tour to be cut to two Tests instead of three. The first Test against Pakistan is in Dunedin from November 24, before the series moves on to Wellington and Napier in December. After a break over Christmas and January, the New Zealanders host Bangladesh for a Twenty20, three ODIs and a one-off Test in Hamilton during February.Australia’s tour features two Twenty20s in late February before a five-match ODI series for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy and two Tests – rather than the originally scheduled three – in Wellington and Hamilton starting on March 19 and 27 respectively. It will be the first time in 20 years that New Zealand have hosted Australia for a series of fewer than three Tests and it confirms that Australia and New Zealand players will not be available for IPL till March 31.”Playing Test cricket in New Zealand after the cessation of daylight saving and deep into the second week of April is not realistic,” Justin Vaughan, the chief executive of New Zealand Cricket, said. “Therefore our only option has been to limit the series to two Tests.”This is shaping up as a very exciting season for cricket fans – and a really busy one for the Black Caps. New Zealand has never before hosted more than five Tests in a season, so the six Test matches being played this summer is a tremendous programme.”The summer will feature two one-day internationals against Australia at Auckland’s Eden Park, which will at the time remain under redevelopment with a reduced capacity. Only 8000 seats will be available for each of those games, instead of the usual level of up to 25,000, and fans can pre-register for tickets at the New Zealand Cricket website.Pakistan in New Zealand

Wolves: Luke Cundle could be given a chance

Wolves could hand academy youngster Luke Cundle a chance to prove his worth during the December period, journalist Liam Keen has hinted.

The Lowdown: Busy period ahead

Bruno Lage’s side have done impressively to sit sixth in the Premier League after 12 matches, overcoming an iffy start to find a strong run of form.

Wolves have seven Premier League fixtures to tackle in December, though, which is going to be a massive test of their squad, especially with injuries mounting.

Lage has hinted in press briefings that the Molineux faithful may see an unnamed new face take to the field in order to tackle the relentless run of games.

The Latest: Cundle could feature

According to Keen on Twitter, an ‘unnamed academy player’, potentially Cundle, looks set to be given an opportunity to excel in the first team. He tweeted: “Bruno Lage has some injury issues and a smaller than ideal squad, meaning he is anticipating a tough December. An unnamed academy player (suspected to be Luke Cundle) could get his chance too.”

The 19-year-old midfielder has a contract keeping him at Molineux until 2023 and he has shone for the club’s youth teams, registering nine assists in 43 appearances for Wolves’ under-23s.

He has featured twice for the first team (both in Carabao Cup matches) and has made the bench for all but two Premier League matches this season, although he is still awaiting his top-flight debut.

The Verdict: Big test of the squad

As mentioned, Wolves are in a good position right now, but the key is to stay amongst the big clubs and continue to kick on throughout a hectic December.

We may learn a lot about Lage’s squad in the next month, with legs tested amid so many games and the depth of the squad potentially coming into question.

It would be great to see someone like Cundle given a chance, though, and it is encouraging that Lage looks set to show some faith in youth.
