A lot of Liverpool fans have been speculating over Divock Origi’s future in response to a tweet from The Athletic’s James Pearce, in which he shared comments from Reds manager Jurgen Klopp about the Belgian forward. 

Origi hasn’t played a very prominent role for the Reds of late, with the 25-year-old having made just five appearances for the 2019/20 Premier League champions so far this season.

He didn’t even make Liverpool’s bench for their most recent top-flight game, Sunday’s 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Klopp has now revealed that he wasn’t absent from the squad for that game due to injury, which suggests that the German manager believes other options are simply better than Origi at the moment. 

So, how did these Liverpool fans react to Klopp’s comments on Origi?

A lot of Reds fans have been responding to Pearce’s tweet to speculate over the £14.4m-rated man’s future, calling for the Belgium ace to be sold and discussing the ‘strange’ issue of his lack of playing time. One supporter admitted Origi is forever a ‘legend’ due to his iconic goals against the likes of Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham. 

In other news, Liverpool are allegedly interested in making a move for Paulo Dybala.

Southampton will be looking to bounce back after their Boxing Day draw with Fulham by picking up all three points when they face West Ham at St Mary’s on Tuesday.

A win will see the Saints keep pressure on the top four after what has been an excellent start to the season for the South Coast club, although they will be without usual goal threat Danny Ings for the game against David Moyes’ side.

Therefore, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side will be reliant on other players to break the deadlock against the Hammers, and right-midfielder Stuart Armstrong could be the man to expose a weakness in the West Ham side.

Moyes’s side will be without usual left-back Arthur Masuaku, as he is still recovering from the knee injury that has kept him out for much of December.

The DR Congo international has been one of the Hammers’ best performers in the top-flight so far this season, averaging a strong 6.87 rating, so he will be a big miss for the London club.

With Aaron Cresswell having been deployed at centre-back for much of the season, Moyes is without any sort of senior back-up to Masuaku at left-back, with 20-year-old Ben Johnson featuring as a left wing-back in their 2-2 draw against Brighton recently.

Whilst he scored in that game, the fact he is a natural right-back suggests that he could be someone that Hasenhuttl should target, as he is inexperienced and playing out of position.

Therefore, if he plays there again on Tuesday, Armstrong could well be the man to take advantage, as if he can get into one-on-one situations with the youngster and get the better of him, it’s likely to create chances for the Southampton forwards.

Back in 2017 Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the Scottish international, who reportedly earns £50,000-a-week at St Mary’s, during his time at Celtic, saying:

“To play at the highest level, you want to be effective. You want a midfielder who has a high level of technique, has mobility to run and be physical — and Stuart has all of that.

“He has big, big qualities that can really set him up in the game. He’s improving all the time.”

Therefore, if Johnson features as a left-back again on Tuesday, then it would not be a surprise to see Armstrong have a real impact on the game against the Hammers.

وأردف: “أما عن أزمة حسام غالي، فقد كانت مختلفة، كان لا يحب طريقة هيكتور كوبر، كان يريد وضع مقترحاته بشكل أكبر في طريقة لعب منتخب مصر”.

واستكمل: “الأزمة التي حدثت لم تكن مع أسامة نبيه ولكن كانت مع كوبر، وهو الذي أصدر قراره في الأمر وقال لا أريد حسام غالي في الفترة الحالية لأنه يمتلك بعض اللاعبين القادرين على تنفيذ طريقة لعبه”.

واستطرد: “مع احترامي لحسام غالي هو لاعب كبير جدًا، ومن أفضل اللاعبين الذين كان يراهم كوبر، وأعلى فنيًا من إبراهيم صلاح، ولكن الأخير كان يقوم بدور تكتيكي يريده المدرب الأرجنتيني”.

واختتم: “أسامة نبيه اقترح على كوبر استغلال حسام غالي في مركز صانع الألعاب، ونبيه ظُلم بشكل كبير جدًا في هذا الأمر”.

Jurgen Klopp’s injury woes look to have eased somewhat after it was revealed that Diogo Jota could return to action this month, despite it having been previously suggested that he could be out until February.

The Portuguese winger made a superb start to life at Anfield following his summer arrival from Wolves, grabbing nine goals for the Reds in all competitions.

The 24-year-old was perhaps expected to be a back-up to the front three at first but clearly won over Klopp with his excellent form and he quickly established himself as a starter at the Merseyside club.

However, disaster struck when he was injured in the Reds’ final Champions League group fixture against FC Midtjylland, with a knee problem reportedly set to keep him out until February.

Fortunately for the German manager, who has seen his side slip to consecutive draws against West Brom and Newcastle, journalist James Pearce has now confirmed that Jota is making good progress with his injury and could be back in action by late January.

The Reds were desperate for some quality from the bench against Newcastle and West Brom recently but with Klopp reluctant to turn to Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino recently, it seems clear that he is desperate for Jota to make his return.

Following his signing from Wolves, assistant manager Pep Ljinders was full of praise for the £36 million-rated winger, saying:

“Diogo, what can I say? His technical level is on the same as our front three.

“He has so much future in the game and he will have a great pathway inside our club. He’s like a pressing monster, so he will fit in straight away.”

Certainly, when Jota returns, Klopp could return to a 4-2-3-1 formation that would allow him to accommodate the Portuguese international as well as Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the Reds attack, which could be the key to solving their lack of goals in recent fixtures.

Manchester City return to Premier League action on Wednesday night, as they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s side cruised through to the FA Cup fourth round after a comfortable 3-0 win against Birmingham City at the weekend and the Spanish manager was able to rest some of his key players ahead of the game against Graham Potter’s side.

City are also beginning to welcome back some of the individuals that tested positive for the current viral outbreak but the likes of Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are injured, whilst Sergio Aguero is self-isolating.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects Guardiola to line his side up against Brighton on Wednesday evening, with five changes from the starting team that beat Birmingham…

Ederson reclaims his place in between the sticks, although Zack Steffen showed himself to be a reliable back up in his recent appearances for the Citizens.

There are two changes in defence, as Kyle Walker moves back out to right-back, having started at centre-back at the weekend, with Joao Cancelo moving to left-back, as we saw regularly earlier in the season.

John Stones gets the start alongside Ruben Dias at centre-back, with the duo rapidly becoming the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League on current form.

Ilkay Gundogan returns in midfield, with the German international having been rested against Birmingham.

In order to accommodate the former Borussia Dortmund man, Kevin De Bruyne pushes forward into the false nine role, which he played so effectively in, in the 3-1 win against Chelsea recently, with Gabriel Jesus dropping to the bench as a result.

The Brazilian, who earns £90k per week at City, once again failed to find the back of the net at the weekend and considering this is a must-win game for the Citizens, they cannot afford to be wasteful in front of goal.

There’s one change on the wing as Raheem Sterling replaces Riyad Mahrez, with the English international missing the game at the weekend due to a lack of match fitness but he should be fine to feature against the Seagulls, whilst Bernardo Silva keeps his place after his impressive brace against Aitor Karanka’s side.

Three points against Brighton keeps the pressure on those at the top of the league, so Guardiola must select a strong lineup to ensure his side secures the win against a struggling Brighton side.
