Years of aggressive spending in the transfer market, which has seen Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson arrive in £40m+ deals, are characteristic of a side aiming for a place in the top-four, but Howe has no experience in leading a club with ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League.

However, Klopp has already insinuated how important the inter-continental trophy is to him, and his squad selection for the tournament says it all. As such, a number of fans are expecting to see a slightly weaker side for Saturday’s clash.

It would make sense for the starting XI to be rotated, just as it has been in previous weeks. With the games coming thick and fast, Klopp will want his players to be as fresh as possible, for as long as possible.

According to Caracol, Newcastle are interested in making a move for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez this summer.

Described as a “special player” by current Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, a swoop for Rodriguez makes a lot of sense.

According to The Evening Standard, Jan Vertonghen is set to finish the season with Tottenham before leaving the club as a free agent.

Vertonghen’s contract runs out in June but Spurs have offered him an extension to cover the remaining nine matches.

Last month the Premier League announced clubs can negotiate short-term extensions for players whose deals are due to expire on 30 June.

Football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick revealed the Belgian intends to remain loyal to the Lilywhites as he will be unable to play for another club until next season at the earliest.

Moreover, the veteran is well aware that it is unlikely he will play every game, which has put his injury fears at ease.

However, Jose Mourinho has ended discussions with Vertonghen’s representatives, and the board have ruled out offering him a long-term deal.

Although the defender was a favourite of former boss Mauricio Pochettino, he has fallen out of favour with the Argentine’s successor, and it appears his eight-year-spell in north London is finally coming to an end.

The 33-year-old is reportedly considering his options, as he has received an offer from Real Betis, and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is keen to bring him to the San Siro Stadium.

Vertonghen has previously said he would like to end his career at his boyhood club Ajax, but he is now weighing up a move to Italy.

While he is below the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga in the pecking order, his presence in the dressing room may be a decisive factor as Spurs look to seal a spot in the top four, as he could provide advice to some of his younger teammates.

كشف الإسباني خوان كارلوس جاريدو مدرب الأهلي السابق، عن اعتذاره تولي تدريب فريق المصري البورسعيدي.

وكان النادي المصري قد أعلن رحيل علي ماهر عن تدريب الفريق في الفترة الماضية، ويبحث عن مدير فني جديد.

وقال جاريدو خلال تصريحات عبر قناة “صدى البلد” ببرنامج “الماتش”: “كان هناك تفاوض بيني وبين المصري البورسعيدي، ولكني اعتذرت لأنها ليست اللحظة المناسبة لتدريب الفريق”.

وأضاف: “أنا أحب مصر والعودة إليها أمر محبب، ولكن لأسباب مهنية وأسرية لم أعد”.

وبسؤاله هل تدريبك للأهلي سبب رفضك لتدريب المصري، أوضح: “أحب الأهلي وعلاقتي قوية بجمهوره وهي من أهم فتراتي التدريبية، وأنا مدرب محترف، ولكن لم أر أن هذه اللحظة المناسبة، الموضوع ليس ماديًا لكنه يتعلق بأنني شعرت أن هذا ليس التوقيت المناسب لتدريب المصري”.
