A transfer saga that rumbled on for the entirety of the summer, Paul Pogba’s long-term future at Manchester United still remains up for debate heading into Christmas.

The France World Cup winner appeared to be all set for an Old Trafford exit after suggesting he was open to trying a “new challenge”, and then later admitting there is still a “question mark” over his United career. The Red Devils stood firm amidst interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus, with reports claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were demanding well in excess of £150m to let their star midfielder go.

But whilst the 26-year-old’s departure may have been something deeply worrying or concerning in respect to where the club was headed just a few months ago, now, it doesn’t seem as bad. The Frenchman has seen this campaign blighted by injuries, and the latest reports appear to suggest he is expected to be out of action for another month. And in his absence, United have seen a midfield partnership in Scott McTominay and Fred begin to flourish.

At 22 and 26 respectively, the duo are still yet to reach the peak years of their careers. In recent months and seasons, both McTominay and Fred have come under criticism for their performances, but since Solskjaer has handed them the reins as the side’s deep-lying midfield two, they have both well and truly stepped up to the mantle.

In the 3-1 victory over Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday, the pair combined for four tackles, six successful dribbles, three key passes and a staggering 16 duels won. They contributed significantly at both ends of the pitch, and played a key role in winning the ball back off the Seagulls and starting attacks.

In his time at Juventus, Pogba was considered to be a man capable of dominating defensively and offensively. His final campaign with the Bianconeri saw him average 2.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 3.5 shots and 1.5 key passes per game in Serie A. It was undoubtedly the all-action kind of displays that prompted United to shell out £89m for him.

Whilst things may not have worked out as they would have wanted, what with all this talk of him leaving just over three years after joining, the Red Devils shouldn’t feel too upset. Because if McTominay and Fred can continue to produce such commanding displays as they did against Brighton, then the post-Pogba future looks bright after all.

Tottenham Hotspur have a number of youngsters waiting to make their first-team breakthrough.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been in poor form in recent weeks and have not won in the league since September, while they have been waiting since January for a win on the road.

However, one feels that the promotion of youth could be a way out of this mess, with fans likely to be enamoured with the idea of academy products making the step up.

Football FanCast, as a result, has taken a look at three defenders who could be the next in line to stake their claims under Mauricio Pochettino.

Japhet Tanganga

Reports suggest that Spurs are keen to tie the defender down to a new deal as they look to stop him leaving the club for a compensatory fee at the end of the season.

A 20-year-old centre-back who has won caps for England at various youth levels between U16 and U20, he made his competitive debut in the Carabao Cup defeat to Colchester United earlier this season.

That came after outings in the International Champions Cup pre-season tournament, in which he featured against the likes of Juventus, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Tanganga joined Spurs when he was 10 and the club’s official website list his jumping ability as a major strength, presumably both in defence and in attack.

The likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez block the path to the first-team currently but the two Belgium internationals could well depart at the end of the season, with their contracts expiring too.

Thus, Tanganga could well get his chance before then, as Pochettino runs the rule over the youngster.

TJ Eyoma

A versatile defender, Eyoma can play at centre-back or at right-back and has already made his senior bow for the club.

The 19-year-old appeared against Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup last season and is currently a fixture for the U23 side, making 45 appearances in total.

Eyoma is also an England youth international, winning caps at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level, lifting the World Cup with the U17s.

Technically sound and composed on the ball, Eyoma is reminiscent of Eric Dier in terms of his versatility and one has to believe that he will get a chance sooner rather than later if he continues to perform at such a high level in the youth ranks.

Brooklyn Lyons-Foster

Just 18, Lyons-Foster has been playing for the club’s U23 squad this season and can play in both full-back positions as well as at centre-back.

Talented on the ball and able to get up and down the pitch, he scored the winning goal last season in the UEFA Youth League clash with PAOK, as the development squad reached the Round of 16.

He is perhaps not as far along in his development as either Eyoma or Tanganga, but Lyons-Foster has promise and is still only a teenager.

Nevertheless, he has been capped at both U16 and U17 level by England and is clearly following the correct path.

وأشارت الإذاعة إلى أنّ النادي الملكي، تواصل بشكل مبدئي مع لاوتارو نفسه، لمعرفة موقفه من الانتقال إلى ريال مدريد، وحتى الآن لم يفتح بعد باب المفاوضات مع إنتر ميلان.

لاوتارو كان قريبًا من قبل من الانتقال إلى ريال مدريد، قبل انضمامه إلى إنتر ميلان، عندما كان لاعبًا في راسينج كلوب، ولكنه فضل حينها الاستمرار مع فريقه الأرجنتيني.

لاوتارو هذا الموسم في الدوري الإيطالي، أحرز 15 هدفًا وصنع ثمانية أهداف في 34 مُباراة بالسيري آ.

يرى الفرنسي زين الدين زيدان، المدير الفني لنادي ريال مدريد، أن فريقه كان الأحق بتحقيق الفوز على إشبيلية في الدوري الإسباني.

وقال زيدان في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “آس” الإسبانية: “نحن غاضبون للغاية، لقد استحقينا الحصول على النقاط الثلاث، وسنواصل القتال، هُناك ثلاث مُباريات مُتبقية”.

وأضاف: “لم نبدأ المباراة بشكل جيد، وتأخرنا في دخول اللقاء مما كلفنا الكثير، في البداية المُباراة كانت مُعقدة، ثم في الشوط الثاني كُنا أفضل بكثير، بالسرعة والرغبة، وأظهرنا أننا نريد الحصول على النقاط “.

وواصل: “وضعنا الآن في الدوري لم يتغير، نحن سنواصل القتال وسنحاول تحقيق الفوز بالمُباريات الثلاث القادمة لمحاولة الفوز بلقب الليجا”.

وتابع: “انا سعيد بما قدمه ريال مدريد أمام إشبيلية، لقد كنا نستحق المزيد، وخاصةً في الشوط الثاني الذي كان مذهلًا، نحن الآن علينا نسيان هذه المباراة وما حدث، علينا التفكير في مباراتنا القادمة، سنقاتل حتى النهاية وحتى الموت”.

وشدد: “لقد أنهينا المباراة بصعوبة، ثم بعد الهدف الأمور كانت مختلفة، في الشوط الثاني كنا أفضل واستحقينا الفوز”.

وأشار: “لقد رأيت لاعبي فريقي يلعبون بشكل جيد، لقد أرادوا الفوز بالمباراة، هُناك ثلاث مُباريات مٌتبقية علينا الذهاب إليها بكل ما لدينا، سنلعب يوم الخميس ثم يوم الأحد، وعلينا التركيز”.

وأتم تصريحاته بتفسير سبب استبدال مودريتش في الشوط الثاني، قائلًا: “كان علينا أن نغير شيئًا ما، وأن نبذل المزيد من الطاقة، التغييرات لم تكن من أجل معاقبة أحد، بل لتغيير شيء ما في لحظة معينة”.

A number of Crystal Palace fans have praised Andros Townsend for his performance in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.

It did appear that Palace would be snatching a point against the Reds when Townsend provided the assist for Wilfried Zaha to level the scores in the 82nd minute.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side had other ideas, scoring a second through Roberto Firmino in the 85th minute to collect yet another three points.

The Palace fans will never be happy with a defeat, but many were pleased with the performance of Townsend against the Premier League leaders.

According to WhoScored, as well as providing an assist, the Englishman boasted a pass success rate of 92%, whilst he had two shots and completed four successful dribbles during his 90 minutes on the field.

Townsend was on the wrong end of the final result, but his performance certainly made a positive impression on the home fans.

وتابع: “في مصر كان علي التعامل مع الأسماء الكبيرة في النادي الأهلي صاحب الشعبية الكبيرة في إفريقيا حتى ولو لم يدركها الكثير حول العالم”.

وأضاف: “ومع ذلك سارت الأمور على ما يرام، على الرغم من اختلاف أسلوبهم ولغتهم، لأن من أهم الأشياء بالنسبة للمدرب هو الحفاظ على العلاقة الجيدة داخل غرفة اللاعبين”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “هذا الشيء أكثر أهمية من التكتيكات، إدارة الفريق هي أصعب شيء من الممكن أن يواجهه المدرب، وتلك الخبرة التي اكتسبتها ستساعدني في التعامل مع هؤلاء النجوم في منتخب تشيلي”.

Arsenal fans are praising Emiliano Martinez following his goodbye post towards Unai Emery following the head coach’s sacking.

The Argentine ‘keeper put out a post thanking Emery and his staff for all their hard work as well as blaming himself and his teammates for the bad performances.

Following last night’s defeat, the Gunners extended their winless run to seven games across all competitions.

Emery has shouldered most of the blame for the recent losses with Jamie Carragher highlighting how he changes formation far too often (via Sky Sports).

Martinez has featured in the cup games for Arsenal this season, making seven appearances across the Europa League and Carabao Cup (via Transfermarkt).

Fans were pleased with the post from the 27-year-old as they took to Twitter to praise him for his show of class towards the departing manager.

The situation at Borussia Dortmund is nowhere near what it was just a season ago.

Last year, they were going toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga crown and came extremely close to snatching the title away from the Bavarians.

This season, however, they seem to be suffering from a hangover that is making them look like a shadow of their former selves.

They are currently sitting in sixth place in the table and have been scrapping through the campaign, barely securing a point for their troubles against Pandeborn in a 3-3 draw after going 3-0 down and, of course, suffering that humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals, Bayern.

But the former Bayern Munich and Inter midfielder, Lothar Matthaus, thinks he knows what they are missing and knows who can fix that (Sky Germany via Goal):

“Their biggest shortcoming is, in my opinion, that they simply have too few winners. They lack the certain something that you need to be successful – greed for success. Both [Can and Mandzukic] have this absolute will to win something and have already done so at national and international level. Neither of them are appreciated by Juve as they would like to be and I know that that are ready for a transfer and are available for a reasonable price. If I was at Dortmund, I would get on the plane to Turin straight away and try to sign them both.”

Of course, Matthaus is very much right on the money with that and as he says, both players could be leaving Juventus in the near future and putting some experience and proven will to fight and win could do Dortmund a world of good.

Interestingly enough, however, they are not the only ones that seem to think so.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troops over at Manchester United have a similar idea and they were heavily linked with Mandzukic even before Dortmund were mentioned.

The Red Devils seemingly need someone who’s a proven winner, like Mandzukic or Edin Dzeko, who was also said to be in the race and even ahead of the Croat as per some reports, to give their relatively young forward line a boost.

They may have the likes of Marcus Rahsford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood emerging on the scene, but none of them are proven stars who can be trusted to perform on the biggest stage when the times comes.

United are in a similar situation to Dortmund as they are struggling to keep up with other big names in the league and could definitely use someone of Mandzukic’s calibre.

As it currently stands, these two teams could go head-to-head for his signature and could profit immensely by landing him.

In other news, Manchester United could be looking to snatch away a young pearl from Juventus’ rivals, Roma.

ولفرهامبتون يختتم الموسم مساء الأحد، بمواجهة مانشستر يونايتد، على ميدانه في “مولينيو”، ضمن لقاءات الجولة الثامنة والثلاثين والأخيرة من الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وكتب النادي عبر حسابه الرسمي بموقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر”: “بعد أربعة مواسم في النادي، ستكون يوم الأحد آخر مباراة لنونو إسبيريتو سانتو في تدريب ولفرهامبتون”.

ومن جانبه قال نونو: “سيكون يوم الأحد عاطفيًا للغاية، لكنني سعيد جدًا لعودة الجماهير إلى مولينو ويمكننا مشاركة آخر لحظة خاصة معًا ، كحزمة واحدة”.

نونو سانتو تولي تدريب ولفرهامبتون، في يوليو 2017، ونجح في الصعود بالذئاب إلى الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز “بريميرليج” من دوري الدرجة الأولى الإنجليزي “تشامبيون شيب”، بعد موسم واحد فقط، كما شارك الفريق تحت قيادته في مسابقة الدوري الأوروبي وأقصى من ربع النهائي على يد إشبيلية في الموسم الماضي.

ولفرهامبتون تحت قيادة سانتو، خاض 198 مُباراة بمُختلف المُسابقات، وانتصر في 96 مباراة، وتعادل في 46 مواجهة، وتلقى 56 هزيمة، وسجّل هجومه 282 هدفًا، واستقبلت شباك فريقه 216 هدفًا.

سانتو هذا الموسم حصل على جائزة مدرب الشهر، مرة واحدة في شهر أكتوبر الماضي، وسينهي الموسم في المركز الثاني عشر، حال فاز أو تعادل مع مانشستر يونايتد، إذ يملك 45 نقطة، والفارق بينه وبين صاحب المركز الحادي عشر أستون فيلا 7 نقاط.
