The Premier League is starting to take shape after nine games, and it doesn’t make good reading for Southampton.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side find themselves languishing in 17th place, just two goals above the relegation zone having amassed just eight points out of a possible 27.

The Saints are struggling to score goals, finding the back of the net just nine times. On the other hand, they are shipping them like there’s no tomorrow at the back, with 16 concessions to their name.

Accountable for four of those nine goals is of course Danny Ings.

The £20m striker has worked hard for his strikes. Against Liverpool, he pressed Adrian before the Spaniard’s attempted clearance ricocheted off Ings and flew into the net, and he scored a similar goal after closing Hugo Lloris down against Tottenham.

Last time out, he pounced on a loose ball after Jesus Vallejo aimlessly punted it long, before slotting past Rui Patricio – that knack of being able to score goals out of nothing will be like gold dust for the Saints as they battle to avoid the drop.

So, how crucial will the England international be in Southampton’s relegation battle? Let’s see what the writers at Football FanCast think…

“With Che Adams still yet to score, Ings will be absolutely pivotal to Southampton in their battle to avoid the drop – make no mistake about it, they are certainly now embroiled in a basement scrap.

“Hasenhuttl’s side can’t seem to keep them out having conceded the third-most amount of goals in the Premier League this term, so it is crucial that they either sort that out, or outscore their opponents – both seem unlikely, but if they are to do the latter, Ings will be key. The only other man who looks capable of finding the net is Moussa Djenepo, but seeing as he can’t stay fit, Ings’ importance has only increased.”

“Ings has been vital to the Saints this year in terms of his goals and work rate, and while he seems integral at this moment in time, there are others who should soon serve the team well in their fight for survival. One of those is Che Adams, who is still taking time to adjust to the Premier League, but has been very unlucky so far.

“He has hit the woodwork once and his XG (expected goals) of 2.5 shows he is getting in the right positions, so there is a feeling that when the first goal arrives, many more will follow – he could end up being a crucial player for Hasenhuttl. Until he does, however, Ings will have to continue his current form if Southampton are to pick up points – if he was to spend time out then it would be a disastrous blow for the club.”

“After a wretched time with injuries, Danny Ings looks hell-bent on making up for all the lost time in his career. His decision to move to Southampton on a permanent basis has given him a new lease of life, and he is proving to be one of the Saints’ go-to men when the chips are down.

“His incredible shot conversion rate of 26% this season is better than Sadio Mane’s 25.3% average from last season – the Senegal international, of course, won the Premier League Golden Boot. When you’re down at the bottom, you need a clinical finisher to capitalise on half-chances. Ings has proven he can be the Saints’ much-needed saviour.”

“Ings is absolutely colossal in their promotion hopes and his recent performances are fine evidence of that. Without the forward I’d really fear for the Saints, especially given the lack of pure goalscoring options alongside him. I’m a big fan of Adams and he was superb in the Championship, scoring 22 goals, but he’s looked a shadow of his former self in the Premier League and seems to panic in front of goal.

“He may have failed to find the net this term but I’ve no doubt he’ll be a solid top-flight performer in the future. However, that might not be good enough for Southampton if they go down. Ings’ five goals in his last four games prove just how crucial he is to Hasenhuttl, but whether they can keep him fit is another issue. His injury history is well documented and they could be in bother if he picks up a knock at any moment.

“The challenge for the south coast side is whether they can score enough goals from other areas. While Ings is incredibly valuable to their hopes of staying in the division, they cannot rely on him solely.”

وقال الشوربجي في تصريحات تلفزيونية لفضائية “أون تايم سبورتس 1”: “أنا كلجنة استئناف أراقب تطبيق اللائحة، ونقارن التظلمات باللائحة والقرارات”.

وأضاف معلقًا على اللجوء إلى الفيديو في تحديد العقوبات: “الفيديو أصبح في العالم كله آمان يمكن الرجوع إليه كما يفعل الحكم في المباراة”.

وأردف: “الفيديو يكون دليل من الأدلة وليس الدليل الوحيد، ونستشف منه أمور معينة ويساند بجانب الإجراءات الأخرى، الفيديو إجراء متبع به مؤخرًا منذ دخول الفار رسميًا، كما لجأنا لفيديوهات الموسم الماضي وقبل الماضي في أمور معينة”.

واستكمل: “حرم الملعب يشمل كل ما هو داخل الاستاد، التراك او غرفة خلع الملابس، أو الطرقة المؤدية للغرف، ووقعنا عقوبة من قبل بسبب الاعتداء على حكم مباراة في غرف خلع الملابس”.

واستطرد: “لا يمكنني الحديث عن واقعة إمام عاشور، لم أتابعها حتى الآن، ولم نفتح الملف”.

وواصل: “تقدم الزمالك بتظلم! يحق التظلم خلال 10 أيام من تاريخ الإدانة، ويمكن للمتضرر أن يقدم تظلمه في اليوم التاسع أو العاشر.. لذلك أنا أبدأ البحث في الأزمة بعد العشر أيام”.

واختتم: “مسؤولو اتحاد الكرة إن كانوا موظفين فيعاقبهم رؤوسائهم، وإن كان عضوًا لمجلس الإدارة فتحاسبه الجمعية العمومية”.

Scuppered at the last minute.

Ryan Yates finally gets back into the groove of things with his appearance last week against Hull City, then his chances of making his second appearance at the City Ground in a week were cut short when the Reading game was postponed before kick-off.

Writing in the matchday programme (via Nottinghamshire Live), the 21-year-old midfielder spoke about his frustrations at missing the whole of pre-season as well as the first couple of months of the campaign:

“I have had 12 weeks on the sidelines and to get back out there for 30 minutes is all I could have asked for. It has been frustrating for me, I had hardly kicked a ball then had my surgery and it was rehab from then on.

“A lot of hard work has gone in behind the scenes from all the staff trying to get me back out on the pitch and it finally happened. It felt good to get that reception from the fans for my comeback.”

Having not been seen since last season, last Wednesday was his first chance to make an impression under Sabri Lamouchi. However, does he have a long-term future under the Frenchman?

Given Lamouchi’s desire to play a 4-2-3-1 formation this season, it would make more sense for him to be slotted into the defensive midfield role alongside Samba Sow, and help dictate play from deep.

The problem for him though, is that his numbers in terms of tackles per game are much lower than the incumbent for that role right now in 34-year-old Ben Watson.

The latter averages 2.5 this season but Yates only mustered 1.4 in 2018/19.

It’s possible that he’s seen as the long-term replacement for Watson, whose contract is up at the end of the season (via Transfermarkt), but until then it could be a very long time until he manages to nail down a place in the starting eleven.

He could take his talents and push further up the field, potentially acting as a creative number ten behind a centre-forward like Lewis Grabban. However, he has only played that position three times in his career so it would be a bit unnatural to see him in that position any time soon.

Forcing himself into the team, therefore, will be tricky.

وتابع: “سأقول ما أشعر به، دائمًا أتحدث 6 مرات في الأسبوع عن المباريات، فيروس كورونا والكثير من الأشياء الأخرى، اسألوا ما تريدون لكن هناك رئيسًا للنادي يمكنه التحدث بشكل أفضل عن البطولة الجديدة”.

وأضاف: “لكن ليس أمامنا سوى بيان عن إقامة البطولة ولا نعرف عنها المزيد، أدعم فريقي وأنا جزء من النادي ولكن لدي رأيي الخاص أيضًا، أود أن أكون واضحًا عندما تكون لدينا كل المعلومات”.

وبسؤاله عن إذا كان معجبًا بنظام البطولة الجديدة بعدم الهبوط أو الصعود، قال: “هذه ليست رياضة عندما لا توجد علاقة بين الجهد والنجاح”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “لم أتحدث مع اللاعبين حول هذه البطولة، لأنها جنين لم يتنفس بعد هذا هو الواقع، كل تركيزنا على بطولة الدوري ودوري أبطال أوروبا ورغبتنا في الوصول إلى النهائي وإذا كانت هناك أزمة على جميع الأطراف التواصل والتحدث تحت إشراف يويفا”.

وأتم: “يويفا يركز على اهتماماته فقط، ومثلما فشل في تقريب وجهات النظر مع الأندية عليهم إعادة التواصل بين الجميع، عليهم التوضيح لأن كل فريق يبحث عن مصلحته في النهاية”.

Birmingham City finally have their sights on a forward it would seem.

And it’s someone that should be familiar to Blues fans, as he’s got pedigree when it comes to this division.

What’s been said?

According to the Sun on Sunday (print edition, 3/11, page 61), Birmingham are said to be interested in bringing in Nahki Wells from Burnley.

It’s understood that the Clarets will want £6m to part with the 29-year-old forward and that’s not the only battle that Clotet and his men face.

Wells is currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers, and with a record of 7 goals in 13 league games so far this season (via Transfermarkt) if he keeps that sort of form going or improves it, Burnley might decide that £6m isn’t enough to make them part company.

A risk, but at least it’s a known risk

When you look at his overall record in the Championship of 59 goals in 197 games (via Transfermarkt), there’s no doubt that he can get you goals in this division.

As we have been documenting on FFC for some time now, the club needs someone else besides Lukas Jutkiewicz to provide the goals if Birmingham are to have any chance of success this season. So there’s no doubt that he can help them out in that department.

It isn’t as if you’re taking a swing at a player from abroad that nobody has heard of that could be boom or bust. You know what you’re signing up for.

The big concern would be the cost of it. £6m is an awful lot of money for a club like Birmingham to spend on someone who is fast approaching 30-years-old. When you consider that he has only got six months left on his contract at Turf Moor (via Transfermarkt), it’s a huge sign of desperation to be willing to pay that much for someone in that situation and at this stage of their career.

If the goal is to get into the Premier League this season, where £6m is a drop in the ocean compared to the vast fortunes that come with being in the division, then it’s a gamble the club has to take.

However, if that bid falls short, then it could ultimately end up being a huge anchor around the club for the next couple of seasons, especially with Financial Fair Play looming over them after their punishment last year.

Football fans on Twitter seem to be in agreement with Gareth Southgate after he left defender Michael Keane out of the England squad.

The recent news has had plenty of fans expressing their opinions on his poor season so far.

As reported by The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Southgate said on Keane’s omission: “He has had a couple of difficult games for us and I felt this was a good moment for him to get a break from it.

“It is a chance for him to work on his game.”

The Blues defender has had a torrid season up until this point and was even dropped by Marco Silva for Mason Holgate against Tottenham Hotspur.

Prior to this, Keane had played in every Premier League game this season and struggled to impress during his stint in the starting XI.

The former Burnley man is also out of the squad based on his performances last time out for the Three Lions. Keane was pointed at for the shock defeat to the Czech Republic, which had the England fans fuming.

Plus, there is also the return of John Stones, which has further put the 26-year-old’s spot in jeopardy.

Keane’s position at both club and country is starting to come under serious threat.

Unless he starts to rapidly improve, Holgate could become a mainstay at the heard of Everton’s defence, leaving Keane’s Euro 2020 dreams in tatters.

ويقاتل يوفنتوس من أجل التأهل لدوري أبطال أوروبا، حيث يحتل المركز الرابع في الجدول، متساويًا في النقاط مع نابولي وميلان.

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been expressing regret after Romaine Sawyers put in a brilliant performance for West Bromwich Albion in their 2-0 win against Stoke City on Monday.

The Whites were apparently interested in the former Brentford midfielder this summer, but he ended up at the Baggies.

It’s hard to disagree with fans who are regretting that the club didn’t sign him as he’s been brilliant for the Midlands club so far this term.

Indeed, the midfielder boasts a pass success rate of 92 per cent, which is the third-highest percentage in the entire division – only being topped by Fulham’s Tim Ream and Harry Arter.

Unfortunately, Leeds missed their opportunity to sign the 28-year-old, and he’s now a key player for one of the Whites’ biggest promotion rivals as he’s started every game for table-topping West Brom after signing for £3m.
