Everton keeper Jordan Pickford has been a disaster this season, and its now in the clubs best interests to sign competition in order to inspire improvement.

Pickford arrived at Goodison Park in 2017 in a deal worth upwards of £30 million – making him the most expensive British goalkeeper in history (BBC Sport).

“It is a great club, a massive club and it is a great opportunity,” he told Everton’s official site.

The England international had excelled during the 2016/17 campaign demonstrating a range of prominent skills, including cat-like agility and pinpoint distribution, albeit in a relegated Sunderland side, and expectations for him to continue his form in the new term were predictably high.

Goodison Park had rarely had much luck with keepers; the likes of Tim Howard, Martin Stekelenburg and Joel Robles all disappointing in their own way.

And things have rarely looked like improving under their new man.

Pickford’s frantic performance against Newcastle United pretty much summed up everything wrong with his current season.

Some fairly decent saves were all but forgotten when Pickford speared forward Solomon Rondon inside his box in a bizarre act of rugby-style petulance.

He subsequently saved the penalty, but that is hardly the point. It was stupid. But Pickford can get away with stupid; there are no viable options on the bench – no one to challenge him, nor to force performances and keep him on his toes.

Everton need to find competition, and Nick Pope could be that man.

According to The Sun, the former Charlton man is set to become made available after falling down the pecking order at his current club Burnley behind Joe Hart and Tom Heaton.

Pope genuinely would not be much of a step down from Pickford’s recent form, and as far as we are concerned any competition is healthy.

وواصل النادي الفرنسي تدعيمه للفريق، ونجح في ضم لاعب وسط نادي بورتو ومنتخب البرتغال، دانيلو بيريرا، على سبيل الإعارة مع وجود شرط يمنح باريس سان جيرمان أحقية الشراء في يونيو 2021.

يبلغ بيريرا من العمر 29 عامًا، وشارك مع بورتو على مدار السنوات الماضية في 202 مباراة وأحرز 19 هدفًا وفاز بالدوري البرتغالي مرتين عام 2018 و2020.

وعلق دانيلو على الانتقال إلى باريس سان جيرمان، وقال في تصريحات لموقع ناديه الجديد: “إنه تحدٍ جديد بالنسبة لي، وفقًا لطموحاتي، الانضمام إلى أحد أكبر الأندية في أوروبا والعالم هو إنجاز في مسيرتي، وآمل أن أكون قادرًا على تقيدم الكثير لهذا النادي وجماهيره”.

With Celtic well on course to win yet another domestic treble, their supporters should be loving what they are seeing on the pitch, right?

Well, recent lacklustre performances against the likes of Aberdeen and Dundee have not boosted the chances of interim boss Neil Lennon getting the Hoops job on a regular basis whatsoever.

Despite dominating possession in both of these fixtures, a clear lack of cutting edge has prevented the club from producing their usual display of goals with certain players receiving more flak than others.

One of those who has been particularly underwhelming over the past few weeks has been right-back Jeremy Toljan. Signed on loan from Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window by former boss Brendan Rodgers, the German has struggled to impact play since initially impressing on his full home debut against Hibernian last month.

A lack of discipline shown by Toljan since moving to Celtic Park has seen him pick up five yellow cards in eleven games for the Hoops which includes a sending off against Valencia in the Europa League, a mistake which played a defining role in his side’s exit from the competition.

However, any calls for the 24-year-old to be dropped may be a bit premature when you consider that with him in defence, the reigning Scottish Premiership champions have yet to lose domestically, winning eight of their last nine. It can also be argued that Toljan is a significant upgrade on Mikael Lustig whose Celtic future is looking increasingly unlikely given the fact that he has yet to sign a new contract with the club and his current deal runs out in the summer.

Although it is fair to say that the former Hoffenheim player can definitely improve his output going forward, his defensive qualities are the primary reason for why Lennon is selecting him and with an eight-consecutive title almost certainly in the bag, the club will not be harmed by the continued presence of the defender.

وواصل تصريحاته: “سيبلغ من العمر 35 عامًا، لكن عندما يكون لاعب مثله قادر على قراءة المباراة عندما يشارك مع فريقه يمكنه الاستمرار في الملعب حتى يشعر بعدم قدرته على العطاء”.

واستمر: “إذا حافظ على مستواه الحالي، فقد يطيل هذا من عمره داخل الملاعب لسنوات قادمة”.

وعن أزمة جريزمان في برشلونة: “عندما يتواجد ميسي في النادي، لن يشعر اللاعب الجديد بأهميته لكني أعتقد أن أنطوان يتأثر أكثر من اللازم مما يحدث حوله”.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إنجليزية موقف نجم فريق مانشستر سيتي، رحيم ستيرلينج، من المشاركة في مباراة الأسبوع المقبل أمام آرسنال.

Crystal Palace return to Premier League action on Saturday at home to rock-bottom club Huddersfield Town.

Following consecutive defeats, at home to fierce rivals Brighton in the league and then away at Watford in the FA Cup, pressure has started to mount on boss Roy Hodgson.

With dreams of silverware put aside for another year, the Eagles are yet to secure safety, and are only five points clear of the relegation zone with eight games still to play.

This weekend’s clash at Selhurst Park could prove to be a make-or-break game for the former England manager. The Terriers are all but down, 16 points adrift at the foot of the table and with one win in their last 18 league outings. But could this work to Palace’s detriment?

What’s the word?

Recent performances have demonstrated some fight and will in the Terriers’ tank, following Jan Siewert’s appointment in late January. In their last outing, they fell to an unfortunate injury-time 4-3 defeat at West Ham after leading for the majority of the match. Two-and-a-half weeks earlier, they beat FA Cup semi-finalists Wolves with a late winner of their own, demonstrating some promise.

They haven’t quite given up, then, and they’re perhaps not as bad as their league position suggests. Add to that the fact really they have little to lose, as opposed to Hodgson and Palace who will be feeling the heat by the time kick-off comes around.

Huddersfield’s biggest threat

The main problem that Palace will have to deal with is likely to be Karlan Grant. The 21-year-old has quickly emerged as a new favourite at the John Smith’s Stadium since his January move from Charlton Athletic and he has enjoyed his transition from League One to the Premier League.

Grant has three goals in six league appearances for Huddersfield and netted twice in that heart-breaking defeat to the Hammers, making him the Yorkshire side’s joint top-scorer this season.

The former England under-19 international will be keen to add to his tally at Selhurst Park, and with the Eagles not having kept a clean sheet in the league since the start of February, Grant will be confident of continuing his rich vein of form.

Everton need a solid defence to play the exciting football Marco Silva wants. To do that, he needs to sign Kurt Zouma, and that might just mean selling his partner Michael Keane.

Everton’s hit-and-miss season has been well documented and those two centre-backs aren’t immune from that criticism. Zouma has looked the more exciting of the two though, and it’s even more impressive considering he’s come back from a long-term injury. Keane hasn’t shone so bright.

They’ve both clearly got potential, but it seems like Zouma has a higher ceiling and would be the preference to keep if an option arose. Of course, the club would like to keep both, but they might not have the cash available to secure the Chelsea man on a permanent deal and sign attacking talents without selling Keane.

Spurs and Arsenal are reportedly interested in the ex-Burnley man despite Everton valuing him at £50m, according to the Daily Mail. If they can push a deal that big through, they could surely land Zouma and find a cheaper alternative to place alongside him.

Zouma is two years Keane’s junior, and it seems the effects of his injury and time out are starting to wear off. It’s important not to forget, without that, he’d probably be Chelsea’s first-choice centre-back at the moment.

Indeed, Everton can use him to help the team challenge for Europe and when it becomes clear to the big guns that he’s back on track to reach his potential, they can sell him for much more than the £50m Keane is supposedly worth, and certainly whatever they buy Zouma for.

He’s rated at £18m on Transfermarkt and if they can secure him for that, it’d be one amazing long-term investment and one Marco Silva would be delighted with, as the Times report he’s been told the club want him to stay.

It’d be shrewd business to sell Keane for such a large sum and buy Zouma for such a steal, so why not go for it and then spend the remaining cash on a much-needed, quality striker.

أكد مدرب فريق ليفربول يورجن كلوب أنهم سيبذلون قصارى جهدهم من أجل تحقيق الفوز في مباراة الغد، أمام أياكس، في بطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا.

Eddie Howe would have been pleased with the business Bournemouth were able to do in the January transfer window, bringing in both Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne from Liverpool.

With the latter having only arrived at the Vitality Stadium on loan, though, the Cherries boss could soon find himself without him with another Premier League club now said to be interested in his services.

The Breakdown

According to Goal, West Ham are keen on signing Clyne permanently in the summer with Liverpool said to be willing to do business at around £15m.

With Pablo Zabaleta possibly set to leave the London Stadium at the end of season, it makes sense that the east London outfit are interested in the Liverpool loanee.

However, with Clyne starting to rediscover some of the form he showed a few seasons ago, Bournemouth would be silly to let West Ham win the race for his signature.

Before his move to Anfield and a host of injuries, Clyne, who is valued at £13.5 million (by Transfermarkt), was easily one of the leading right-backs in the Premier League.

On his day, there were few wingers who could get past him. At 28, he may struggle to reach that level again.

Still, under Howe at Bournemouth, the England international is finally managing to find some consistency.

And if he keeps it up, the Cherries will find it hard to spot a better right-back in the transfer market this summer.
