A ausência de Carlinhos nas competições se deve por dois diferentes moitvos. Primeiramente, o atacante não pode atuar pelo Flamengo na Copa do Brasil pois já jogou esta edição do torneio pelo Nova Iguaçu, na vitória do Laranjão sobre o Itabuna-BA. O camisa 9, inclusive deixou o dele na goleada por 8 a 0, ainda na primeira fase do campeonato.
Na Libertadores, no entanto, a situação é menos problemática. O prazo para a inscrição de jogadores na competição se encerrou na sexta-feira (29), e o Flamengo já enviou a relação de 50 nomes que podem representar o clube na fase de grupos. Contudo, há a possibilidade do Rubro-Negro inscrever Carlinhos a partir das oitavas de final do torneio, caso assim deseje.

Desta forma, o atacante só estará disponível ao Rubro-Negro para o Brasileirão e para o mata-mata da Libertadores até o fim da temporada. Antes, Carlinhos enfrenta o Flamengo pelo Nova Iguaçu, nas finais do Campeonato Carioca, e disputa a artilharia do estadual com Pedro, futuro companheiro de time.
O Flamengo venceu o Atlético-GO no Serra Dourada neste domingo (14), mas a atuação da equipe ficou muito abaixo do esperado. Apesar dos três pontos na estreia do Brasileirão, o time comandado por Tite demonstrou muitas dificuldades diante do Dragrão, sobretudo na criação de jogadas. Um dos fatores que explicam a performance ruim, porém, foi o estado do gramado em Goiânia.

Historicamente tido como um dos melhores campos do Brasil, o Serra Dourada não recebia partidas desde agosto do ano passado. No entanto, as condições de jogo no estádio estavam longe de ideais para uma partida da Série A do Campeonato Brasileiro. Desta forma, o Flamengo voltou a sofrer com adversidades e não conseguiu impor seu jogo contra um adversário mais fraco.
Na estreia do Rubro-Negro pela Libertadores, no último dia 2 de abril, a equipe foi até a Colômbia enfrentar o Milionarios na altitude. Mais uma vez, as condições de jogo não eram ideais e o time falhou em conseguir uma boa atuação, mesmo sendo amplamente favorito. Curiosamente, tanto no jogo de Bogotá quanto no de Goiânia, o Flamengo foi vazado quando tinha superioridade numérica e tentava administrar a partida.

Ninguém nega a dificuldades de ambas situações e praticar um bom futebol em condições tão adversas não é tarefa fácil. Contudo, um elenco tão caro, comandado por um treinador tão experiente, deve ser mais forte contra esses fatores. Afinal, o futebol brasileiro e sul-americano exige que, em muitas vezes, você supere não só o adversário, mas obstáculos como gramados ruins e altidudes. Por isso, o Rubro-Negro não pode se dar o luxo de sofrer tanto nessas ocasiões.

Opener Daniel Hughes gave the visitors something to cheer with an impressive rearguard 56 not out from 131 balls.It would now be a significant surprise if Revis is not selected to tour Australia with the England Lions this winter. Another man who could be on that tour is George Hill, with whom Revis shared an entertaining seventh-wicket partnership of 140 either side of lunch.Fellow all-rounder Hill contributed a season’s best 75 off 93 balls. The pair have shared an unbroken 95, with Ibrahim 50 not out.Ibrahim reached 50 off 111 balls with the day’s final delivery. But the pair have plenty more work to do on a pitch which is showing increasing signs of turn.
A Champions League club have made an approach for Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier, with the Frenchman’s time at Elland Road likely to come to an end sooner rather than later.
The Whites have done well back in the Premier League so far this season, steering clear of the relegation zone and more than holding their own.
New signings have settled in well and last season’s Championship players have largely handled the step up to the top flight impressively, but one figure who hasn’t featured at all is Meslier.
The 25-year-old was once a highly-rated young goalkeeper of whom big things were expected, with some even predicting that he would be Hugo Lloris’ long-term replacement for France, but he has become an error-prone figure at Elland Road, leading to him being dropped last season.
It feels like a case of when Meslier departs Leeds rather than if, with Daniel Farke making it clear he isn’t an important figure, and it now looks as though his exit may not be too far away.
Champions League club make approach for Leeds ace Meslier
According to an update from Voetbal Krant [via Sport Witness], Club Brugge have made an approach for Leeds ‘keeper Meslier, as well as rivals Anderlecht.
They are hoping to strike a deal in the January transfer window, even though it is “not an easy proposition”, but his time with the Whites is still thought to be “coming to an end”.
It feels right for all parties for Meslier’s time at Leeds to reach its conclusion, with his current situation not helping anyone, in terms of having an out-of-favour player not featuring at all at the club.
The £30,000-a-week stopper will surely want to be starting games regularly at this point in his career, and that won’t happen with the Whites, with Farke brutally honest about his shortcomings last season.
“It’s fair to say he had a poor game against Hull and his mistake for the second goal was decisive. There were a few games where he could have and should have done better. There were perhaps one or two strikes where you would expect a player of his calibre could save it when he is on the top of his game. I spoke with Illan about this and although he has had many clean sheets and many good saves he could show this with more consistency. It’s important to be honest and open.”

Kieron Pollard has reacted strongly to being booed by the crowd during the CPL 2025 final, which his team Trinbago Knight Riders won after beating hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence.”It [Winning the CPL] means a lot,” Pollard said on Sunday. “But one thing I’ll say. There’s three countries in the Caribbean where we have played, the booing is boring now. We are still the laughing stock of cricket in the West Indies. You have a guy who has represented the entire Caribbean over a period of time, putting them on the map in the format. Yet, we still don’t appreciate him. I’m not bitter but I feel sorry, not for myself.”Kieron Pollard plays cricket and that’s what I know. I got the opportunity, God has given me a talent, I have represented my family and my country. I don’t politicise things, I do it because I love the game and I love the sport. This means a lot – five-time champions. Going around the Caribbean at 38 years old…but we’re still the laughing stock of cricket in the world.”Pollard has received hostile receptions from crowds in other countries in the Caribbean as well. In CPL 2024, he was booed at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia during his unbeaten half-century for TKR, despite having captained St Lucia in the past.
With this CPL triumph, Pollard (18) surpassed his good friend and current TKR coach Dwayne Bravo (17) to become the player with most T20 titles in history. At 38, Pollard also scooped up the Player of the Tournament award for his 383 runs in 11 innings at an average of over 50 and a strike rate of nearly 175. Nobody hit more sixes than Pollard’s 36 this season.While Pollard was tight-lipped about his CPL future as a player – he has already retired from the IPL and forayed into coaching there – he confirmed that he will play in the upcoming season of the ILT20 in the UAE.”I can’t tell you the future,” Pollard told Daren Ganga in a separate post-match interview. “I can only deal with what’s in front of me. I have a flight coming up and I’m getting home to the kids. I’m just trying to enjoy some time at home. I’ve been on the road for the entire year. So, I think I owe it to them. However, the Gunners also have more than their fair share of cult heroes, such as Sunderland’s current captain, Granit Xhaka.
The Swiss international left Arsenal in the summer of 2023, but it looks like Mikel Arteta might have someone in his squad today who could be the club’s next Xhaka.

Unfortunately, while he certainly wasn’t one of the team’s worst players, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach ace was fairly underwhelming over the following few years.
However, given his experience, combative nature, and general personality, he was chosen by his teammates to become the club’s captain in September 2019, under Unai Emery.
It was a decision that would cataclysmically backfire just a month later, when, during a game against Crystal Palace, he was substituted off to a jeering crowd, to which he responded by throwing the shirt and armband to the floor and swearing.
At that point, it looked like his Arsenal career was well and truly over, but once he was appointed manager, Arteta was able to convince the fiery midfielder to stay and fight for his place.
Over the next two years or so, that is exactly what the Basel-born titan did, and finally, against all the odds, away to Brentford in September 2022, the fans began to sing his name once more.
The tough-tackling, all-action international had his best campaign in red and white that season, ending it with nine goals and seven assists in 47 games as the club launched a surprising title charge.

It would prove to be his final year with the club, but instead of leaving in disgrace like so many thought he would, the Swiss icon was serenaded by an adoring Emirates crowd as he grabbed a brace and said his goodbyes.
Now, two and a half years later, it looks like Arteta could have his own Xhaka-type player in his Arsenal squad.

Now, arguments could certainly be made for either Declan Rice or Martin Zubimendi becoming the next Xhaka for Arsenal, but instead, it’s actually Myles Lewis-Skelly.
It might sound a little out there at first, but there are a few reasons, such as the youngster’s natural position.
Yes, the teenager has played at left-back for the first team, but spent most of his time in the academy playing as either a defensive or central midfielder.
Moreover, when you watch him play, it is so apparent that he’s more of a central player, as not only does he have the spatial awareness and range of passing to thrive there, but he also has the carrying ability.
In fact, it was his incredible drive and assist for Gabriel Martinelli against Atletico Madrid that led one content creator to label him asone of the best in “world football” when it comes to carrying.
Furthermore, the 19-year-old has already shown the physical and mental strength Xhaka possess, and as Rice has pointed out, he seems utterly “fearless” on the pitch, regardless of the opposition.
Finally, in addition to the fiery attitude, the Hale End gem also has a wand of a left foot, and has already chalked up a few assists thanks to his weight of pass.
Ultimately, it is still so early in his career, but it’s clear that Lewis-Skelly shares some of Xhaka’s best traits and could become Arsenal’s new version of the Swiss monster.
