Liverpool eyeing Cillessen, but what does it mean for Karius?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is planning to move for Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, according to Don Balon.

What’s the word?

Defensively, the Reds have had problems for some time, but the January arrival of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton has helped improve the back line.

There still remains an issue over the goalkeeper options that Klopp currently has at his disposal.

Simon Mignolet was the number one, but he relinquished the jersey at the turn of the year.

Loris Karius has since been promoted to first choice, but a report in Don Balon claims that Klopp is not convinced by either shot-stopper and wants to bring in Cillessen.

Is Klopp making the right move?

There is no denying that signing a world-class goalkeeper will boost Liverpool’s chances of winning silverware.

Cillessen has been unable to force Marc-Andre Ter Stegen out from the number one role, but he has the quality to thrive in a top team.

It is unlikely that Mignolet is going to win back his spot at Anfield, so it could transpire that the Reds need to find a replacement for him.

Cillessen would expect to be first choice, though, which means that Karius would drop back to the understudy role.

At the moment, it seems unfair to oust the German considering that he has conceded just six goals in his last 10 outings in between the sticks.

In total, Karius has kept 12 clean sheets in 23 games in all competitions this season, his most recent being Wednesday night’s 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at Anfield.

Disrupting the 24-year-old this summer may not be the best option for Liverpool, but if a top-class keeper becomes available, the Reds need to be part of the conversation.

HYS: Can Liverpool keep hold of Mohamed Salah?

Mohamed Salah has silenced his critics by having a stellar first season as a Liverpool player.

The Chelsea reject, who moved to Anfield from Roma last summer, has scored 39 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions.

The man who struggled to get game time at Stamford Bridge has become a pivotal figure on Merseyside, and over the course of two legs played a starring role in the Reds reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

After netting the opener in a 3-0 triumph at Anfield in the team’s quarter-final tie against Manchester City, Salah struck to secure a crucial away goal at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg.

Jurgen Klopp’s team coped with waves of pressure from City’s attacking force in the first 45 minutes, and Salah later changed the complexion of the contest with an audacious chip over goalkeeper Ederson.

Roberto Firmino rounded off the victory with a goal of his own, but Salah will take most of the plaudits.

Unsurprisingly, the Egyptian international’s form has made others take notice, with Spanish publication Don Balon recently reporting that the attacker is a top target for Real Madrid this summer.

Liverpool fans have made it clear on social media that they are desperate for the ex-Roma star to stay put.

Given how prolific Salah has been this season, and couple that with the fact that Liverpool have lost star players to Spanish giants before, are the Reds capable of holding on to the 25-year-old?

Newcastle fans fume at Benitez exit talks

Newcastle fans are absolutely furious with Danny Murphy, after the former England international said Rafael Benitez would be perfect at Arsenal.

Another summer with limited investment from Mike Ashley means another summer of exit rumours about Rafa Benitez, and Newcastle fans are already fed up of it.

The Spaniard has guided the Magpies from relegation trouble to a likely top ten finish, and his class and composure has endeared him to everyone on Tyneside.

There could be several top Premier League teams without a manager this summer, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton all looking likely to part ways with their bosses.

Arsenal is of course the most intriguing job due to the length of time Arsene Wenger has been at the club, and Murphy says Benitez is the perfect fit in North London.

“Rafa Benitez would be perfect for Arsenal,” the 41 year-old said.

Murphy won over some Newcastle fans recently when he heaped praise on Jonjo Shelvey, but we think he’s back in the bad books after these latest comments.

HYS: Should Harry Kane play in the hole against Man United?

It has been a tough week for Harry Kane, widely mocked on social media for the lengths he went to to ensure Tottenham’s winning goal against Stoke was awarded to him.

And at half-time in Spurs’ match with Brighton, the frustration looked to continue as he had barely had a kick against Chris Hughton’s Seagulls.

Yet, just as he did at the interval in the win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino reshuffled his forward line at the break and Kane emerged for the second period playing in the number 10 position, just behind Son Heung-min, who led the line.

Kane’s all-round game means that he can play in the hole and he opened the scoring within minutes of the restart, before Spurs were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Pascal Gross’ penalty.

That gives Pochettino a big decision to make ahead of this Saturday’s huge FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester United at Wembley – does he deploy Kane as the number 10 from the start?

Liverpool fans urge club to sign Anthony Martial despite poor Brighton display

Manchester United winger Anthony Martial put in a disappointing display in the 1-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Friday night, but Liverpool fans would still like their club to sign the £58.5m-rated star this summer.

The 22-year-old was handed just his second Premier League start since the end of February by manager Jose Mourinho with Alexis Sanchez absent, but he failed to take advantage in a disappointing display where all three of his shots went off target.

The France international was indirectly criticised by his boss post-match to raise further question marks over his future at Old Trafford, but the showing and situation seemingly hasn’t put off the Anfield faithful, where Martial would compete for a place in the frontline with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool supporters, who have also urged the club to sign Roma striker Edin Dzeko, were quick to have their say on the forward’s latest display via social media, and while one said “Klopp would get him back to his best”, another said “I’d love Martial at LFC”.

Tottenham Hotspur fans loved Lamela’s contribution on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur finished third in the English Premier League this season after a dramatic final day win against Leicester City.

Trailing 3-1 in the match at Wembley, Mauricio Pochettino’s side clicked into gear and ended up winning the match 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.

Doubles from Harry Kane and Erik Lamela helped their side to victory, delighting supporters who certainly weren’t let down with a boring end-of-season affair.

Supporters loved the contribution from Lamela, who has received his fair share of criticism over the last few months. Sunday’s goals were his first for the club since an FA Cup clash in March against relegated Swansea.

Is it a performance that demonstrates he has a long-term future at the club, or is this a one-off ahead of what could be an exit in the summer transfer window?

He’s certainly winning round some fans, who took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his Sunday display…

Arsenal fans discuss Perez future under Emery

Lucas Perez will be disappointed with how his Arsenal career has developed.

Tbe 29-year-old joined the Gunners from Deportivo La Coruna in 2016, but struggle to break into Arsene Wenger’s team.

Last year, Perez returned to his former club on loan and ended up scoring nine goals and creating eight assists in all competitions.

The spell was a lot more fruitful than his first season at Arsenal, in which he made just 11 Premier League appearances, two of which were starts, and netted only once.

[ad_pod ]

It is all change at the Gunners following the appointment of Unai Emery as Wenger’s successor.

Whenever a new manager takes over it gives fringe players the chance to prove their worth and try to claw their way into the team.

Perez’s long-term future at the Emirates remains in limbo, but according to El Desmarque, Emery has told the forward to return to Arsenal for pre-season training and a discussion will be had about his prospects.

Many Arsenal fans feel that the Spaniard still has plenty to contribute to the team as a squad player, and some even think that he is a better option than Danny Welbeck and Alex Iwobi.

Liverpool youngster Dhanda rejects new deal for Swansea City move, fans react

The future looks very bright for Liverpool under manager Jurgen Klopp, but for some of the club’s academy starlets, they face a battle to break into the first team. The German coach has always been open to giving young talent a chance, but given the prolific form of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, any forward player will find it difficult to win a place. That could have been part of Yan Dhanda’s thinking when he, according to Goal.com journalist Neil Jones, rejected a new contract at Anfield.

It is believed that the 19-year-old will join recently-relegated Swansea City when his current deal expires this summer.

The Birmingham-born attacker has been part of Liverpool’s academy since 2013 when he moved from West Bromwich Albion.

[ad_pod ]

His pathway to the first team was never going to be an easy one, but Reds fans think that the club has missed a trick by not tying down youngsters to longer deals and then agreeing buyback clauses, much like Chelsea do.

Other supporters, though, understand Dhanda’s desire to move on.

Collymore urges Liverpool to sign Alderweireld, Alli and Eriksen, Tottenham Hotspur fans react

Liverpool will be licking their wounds after failing to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final, but attention will soon turn to transfers.

Pundit and former Reds striker Stan Collymore has given some advice to the club in his column for The Mirror, and Tottenham Hotspur fans find it hilarious.

The 47-year-old has suggested that Liverpool should offer £150m to sign Spurs trio Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld.

The group have been crucial members of Mauricio Pochettino’s team, so it would be a huge shock if chairman Daniel Levy would even entertain selling.

[ad_pod ]

The only one out of the three that Spurs could allow to move on this summer is Alderweireld, who is yet to sign a new contract.

Even so, given how stubborn Levy is, the amount of £150m would likely be far too low for the businessman to consider.

Tottenham supporters are not the biggest fans of Liverpool following Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah’s tussle for the Golden Boot, which eventually fell in favour of the latter.

So, when they read Collymore’s comments, they could not help but laugh.

Newcastle fans are confident over Lascelles future

By all accounts, Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles is a wanted man this summer.

Indeed, if recent reports are to be believed, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are all interested in signing the centre-back ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Lascelles was certainly impressive at St James’ Park last season, and he can count himself unfortunate to have missed out on a spot in the England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

According to the London Evening Standard, it might well cost interested clubs as much as £45m to land Lascelles in this summer’s transfer window.

Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of their captain this summer, but it is going to prove difficult to hold off the interest if the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton decide to start putting serious offers on the table.

That said, the Newcastle supporters are confident that Lascelles will still be with the club entering the 2017-18 campaign.
